I discovered this fantastic Japanese whiskey at a random bar in Sonoma County when I was visiting my brother. We were trying out various drinks when the subject of Japanese whiskey came up with the bartender. I told him that in general I had not really liked any that I tried so far. He recommended we try this one and it was a game changer. I got a bottle as soon as I got home in Los Angeles.
My major criticism of Japanese whiskeys was that the ones I had tried all had a singular tasting note of grain. This one immediately set itself apart with an aroma that contained both wood and fruit. It was subtly sweet. The taste is even better though. It has refreshing floral notes and is very smooth. I pick up melon and butter, it shares a lot of qualities with some white wines. It is more on the expensive side, a bottle runs around $100, but you will get your money’s worth.
