Lagavulin 16 Year

Lagavulin 16 Year
Lagavulin Distillery
Islay, Scotland
ABV: 43%
86 Proof

I picked up a bottle of Lagavulin 16 year while in Scotland based on a tour bus guide’s recommendation. I realized when I got back that I could have easily gotten at a local store. I suppose it was a little cheaper in the country of origin at least. When I was having it one night a friend observed that it was Ron Swanson’s favorite whiskey from Parks and Recreation. I had seen the show but forgotten the specific distillery he had fallen in love with. Well Ron, I’m glad you enjoy it but I don’t think it is for me.

It’s not that it is bad, I think I just realize I don’t like intensely peaty and smokey notes in my whiskey. I think it is an element that can be balanced with other notes. With this whiskey though, peaty and smoky is exactly what you are going to get and in a big way. Both the smell and the taste. It leaves a warm tingle in the throat and you smelling like a campfire for hours. Worth checking out if that sounds good to you, you can get a bottle for around $85.
