Nelson’s Green Brier Whiskey

Nelson’s Green Brier Whiskey
Green Brier Distillery
Nashville, Tennessee
ABV: 45.5%
91 Proof

While in Nashville I got the opportunity to visit the Green Brier Distillery. It has a unique story where the family reclaimed and started the distillery back up from the 1880s. You can read about it on their website. I tasted all their current bottles including the Green Brier which I had blind bought the day before. It ended up being my favorite of the whiskeys they offered.

A fine selection of whiskey below the portrait of the original distiller Charles Nelson.

This whiskey is a reboot of the the original whiskey made up until 1909. Once in the glass it has a nice smell of young oak. The flavor really stood out to me. It was nice and smooth with notes of wood and grass which I have never picked up before in any other whiskey. Just felt earthy and nice. A bottle is pretty cheap at about $30 and I plan on getting another if I see it in a store.

They also have a cat at the distillery named Sugar Maple and I found out about the concept of distillery cats altogether. You can follow an instagram account and see him and several other cats here
