Elijah Craig Small Batch
Elijah Craig Distillery
The summer before the pandemic, my parents decided to take a road trip across the country from North Carolina all the way to the west coast to visit my brother and myself. They asked what I wanted for my birthday and I asked them to see if they could find anything more exclusive in Kentucky on their way here. They ended up picking this up. I don’t think it was actually limited to the state, but it was an excellent choice.
I like Elijah Craig in general, they are right up there with Heaven Hill as one of my favorite distilleries. This small batch was no exception. The small batch label is assigned to 70 barrels or less, all drawn from the middle or upper floors of the traditional metal clad rickhouses. The bourbon has a pleasant oak wood smell with a slight sweetness to it. The taste is incredibly smooth with a mellow sweetness that tastes like caramel. The flavor lingers and doesn’t change much at all. Very easy drinking. At around $40 a bottle it is easily recommended.
