Glenfiddich Bourbon Barrel Reserve

Glenfiddich 14 Year Old Bourbon Barrel Reserve
The Glenfiddich Distillery
Dufftown, Banffshire, Scotland
ABV: 43%
86 Proof

When I first started drinking scotch, I found it intimidating to order at a bar because of both the large variety and difficulty in pronouncing them. This led me to trying out a bunch of samples of the more common brands at home to figure out what I like. Glenfiddich stood above the rest with its fruity smells and unique flavor. It also helped that I could say it easily. When shopping around online this past year in the pandemic I came across this variant that is aged in bourbon barrels and was super excited to try it out.

“After 14 years in ex-bourbon casks, a rich indulgent sweetness. Then a vivid and vibrant punch of vanilla from its new oak barrel finish.”

The nose is very smooth with hints of pear, vanilla, a little bit of that fresh oak barrel that it is finished in. The taste has that traditional malty flavor with a little bit of fruitiness that I’m used to from Glenfiddich but it has a much smoother and sweeter finish from that bourbon barrel aging process. It also comes at a very reasonable price of around 45 dollars. I will be going with this version over the normal ones if I encounter it in the wild.
