Heaven Hill Select Stock

Heaven Hill Old Style Bourbon
Heaven Hill Distillery
Bardstown, KY
ABV: 50%
100 Proof

It brings me great pain that upon doing the research for one of my favorite bourbons I discovered that is has been discontinued as of early 2019. I’m glad I was able to discover and enjoy a few bottles. This was my favorite easy drinking bourbon, available exclusively in liquor stores in Kentucky for an extreme value of around 12 dollars a bottle.

I actually found out about it when a friend of mine hosted a blind bourbon tasting party. He had a variety of about 10 bottles that were covered up and we went through all of them. They had a great range of price from 10 – 200 dollars a bottle. At the end of it all I had declared this one my favorite only to find out it was the cheapest of them all but also the hardest (impossible) to obtain in California.

Last year I had the opportunity to visit Bardstown with my parents when visiting them in the winter in North Carolina. We made the drive out to Kentucky and spent a few days there where I got to try and take home with me several exclusive bourbons from the state. My parents thought I was a little crazy when after visiting the Heaven Hill distillery, wanted to then go to a local liquor store and pick up two bottles of this. They ended up enjoying it enough themselves they wanted to buy a bottle as well.

The actual bourbon is white labeled Bottled in Bond (BiB) which mean it was aged six years. By definition of BiB the whiskey must be the product of one distillation season and one distiller at a single distillery, aged in a federally bonded warehouse under U.S. government supervision for at least four years, and finally it must be bottled at exactly 100 proof.

Ultimately this is a very smooth tasting and cheap bourbon that I enjoy thoroughly. I’m sad it is gone, but I did get to drink one last pour when revisiting my parents this year. I’d pour one out for this guy but it would be a waste of good bourbon.
